Are Other Students Being Given Our Children’s School Supplies?

Two weeks before the first day of school I buy my three children their school supplies. I have two children that are in intermediate, and on that first day of school they take their school supplies with them. Having to buy for three children is challenging for me, but I do it and I expect the school supplies that I buy to be only used by my children. As my children go through the school year they ask me for more school supplies. Knowing that they have not used all of their ten folders and twenty four pencils I tell them to ask their teacher for their school supplies. Well, come to find out that the teacher says that they do not have any school supplies. I ask my children what has happened to all of their school supplies. They then tell me that on the first day of school the teacher puts everyone’s school supplies together, and gives the less fortunate students some from there.

I am not against helping the less fortunate, but I would like to know ahead of time that this is how things are going to be done for those children that do not have school supplies. There are so many quantities of school supplies that the students need to take to school. I also know that parents that can not afford school supplies for their children can get help through the school, as well as for uniforms. There is also the S.O.S. drive that is just about everywhere you shop before school starts.

So, yes other students are given our children’s school supplies being of no fault of their own. I am glad that my children do not get upset when this happens. All they know to do is just ask me for school supplies as they are instructed to do so by their teacher. Something should be done about this. I shouldn’t have to worry too much longer. One of my children will be going to middle school where my oldest son is now, and I know for a fact that this does not happen in middle school, since middle school is more about being independent. What I do now is just buy school supplies all year round, especially when they go on sale. I save them, and give them to my children when they need them.

Our Children’s School Supplies Should Not Be Issued to Other Students

I am not in favor of our children’s school supplies being issued to other students that do not have their school supplies on the first day of school. Maybe these students’ parents do not have the money to buy them school supplies, but it is not easy when you have three children to buy school supplies for as I do. The elementary and intermediate school asks for quantities of everything that is on the school supply list. By the middle of the school year the teachers then ask for more school supplies. For example, I know that my children do not use twenty-four pencils by the middle of the school year. Buying school supplies for my children by the middle of the school year would not be a problem if I knew that my children were the ones using the school supplies instead of other children.

There are donations for schools supplies that are taken every year right before school starts. Just about everywhere you go there is a donation box. There is the Supply Our Students drive that is done every year as well. The schools also issue gift cards to the less fortunate students to shop for school supplies, uniforms, backpacks, etc. I just feel like the school should let the parents know that some of our children’s school supplies will be divided up for the less fortunate students, and then this would not be a problem for me.

I do not know if all elementary and intermediate schools do this, but my children’s school does. I did not come to find out that this was being done until I told my son to ask his teacher for his school supplies, and that is when he told me that he did not have any school supplies left. My son said that on the first day of school the teacher gathers all of the student’s school supplies and divides them so everyone can have the same amount. So now I just stock up on school supplies.  I know that by the time my children get to middle school this will not be a problem. My twelve year old goes to middle school, and things are done different there. Middle school is more about being independent

School Supplies Are Not Only Being Used By Our Children

Our children’s school supplies are not only being used by them, they are also being used by the unfortunate students in their classrooms. The end of every school year our children are given a school supply list for the approximate school year. I have three children and there is usually a quantity of school supplies that is on the list. This gets pretty costly. I know my children need their school supplies. Buying the school supplies is not the real problem here. The problem is when my children’s school supplies are being issued to other students that do not have any on the first day of school.

I did not know that is what was going on in school. One day my middle child that is in intermediate came home asking me for school supplies. It was not even the middle of the school year. I told him to ask his teacher for some school supplies because I knew that he had not used all of the school supplies that I had bought him for school. So, he then told me that he did not have any because on the first day of school the teacher takes up everybody’s school supplies and puts them all in a pile. My son said that the teacher then divides the school supplies so that all of the children have school supplies. I do not mind the school supplies going to help out the less fortunate student, but I just think that the parents should be notified in some manner.

There are donations that are taken up every year right before school starts. There is the Supply Our Students drives that they have every year, there are also donation boxes in just about every store where you shop. The schools also have gift cards that they issue for school supplies and school uniforms for the less fortunate students. My oldest child’s middle school does not issue his or anyone else’s school supplies to the less fortunate. I just want my children to be able to use up all of their school supplies, instead of having to buy them more when the supplies are not used only by them. It is ridiculous on the amount of school supplies that our children are required to take to school.

Why Are Other Students Being Given Our Children's School Supplies?

On the last day of school my children are given a list of the school supplies that they will need for the upcoming school year. My two children are in elementary. I notice that on some of the school supplies listed a quantity is what will be needed. For example, twenty-four pencils is one of the school supplies needed. I come to college and I do not need that many pencils. These school supplies should be enough to last through the school year. It was not even the middle of the school year and my son came home asking me for more school supplies. I told him to ask his teacher to give him some from his stack of school supplies. My son then tells me that he does not have any, and that on the first day of school that the teacher puts everyone's school supplies in a stack and divides them up so that everyone can have some. This is the reason why other students are being given our children's school supplies. The same thing happened to my daughter there in elementary.

I was not aware that this is how the teachers do things when it comes to our children's school supplies. In prior years my children had their own school supplies, and the teacher would put them up. When my children needed more school supplies the teacher would just take them out, and hand it to them. The children that do not have school supplies on the first day of school are being issued the other students school supplies. I do not mind helping out the less fortunate children, but I think that parents should be informed somehow about this. There are so many donations that are taken up for school supplies every year right before school starts. There is the Support Our Students drive that is done every year as well. I know that inside the stores there are donation boxes, and this is just about everywhere you go. The schools also issue gift cards to the less fortunate students to buy school supplies, school uniforms, backpacks, etc.

It is costly to buy school supplies for all three of my children. My other son is in middle school, and he gets to keep his own school supplies. Those school supplies are not being given to any other students. What I do now is buy school supplies through the year, and put them up so when my children need more I already have them.
